Typically, you will find that some job search tips are better than others. For example, many people today turn to human resource experts, hoping that they will gain some insights into how the job hunt process looks from the “other side” of the table. While some of these job search tips may be of some help, they may not address the fine points that prevent you from getting a job. Oddly enough, the only people that can really and truly teach you how to get a job are the ones that know how to do it themselves. Are you overqualified, or can’t find a job in your niche? If so, a human resource person that has always worked in a big city won’t be able to help you. On the other hand, someone that has been successful under the same, or similar circumstances can and will be able to give you all the answers that you truly need.

Look Outside of Your Usual Job Niche

As someone that lived in a rural, economically depressed area for over 20 years, I can relate to the fact that many people today are having a hard time finding jobs. In the exact same position, I looked to jobs that had nothing to do with my college degree, or even my personal interests. Therefore, when it comes to job search tips, my advice from experience is as follows:

 Don’t be afraid to look at jobs that are in a related career cluster. If you can’t find something there, try something you’ve never done before.

Does it work? Absolutely! In fact, I’m living proof. In 20 years, I went from being a bookkeeper to a computer programmer to a medical biller. None of my jobs had anything to do with my degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology. In fact, even now, as a home based business woman, my tasks have nothing to do with any of my past job experience, let alone anything that I ever thought I would be.

Training Opportunities Have Added Value

Today, there are many good jobs that require training. This includes IT and medical industry jobs. Chances are, you would be amazed at all the free training opportunities that are offered both within specific companies, as well as elsewhere in your own community. Consider a situation where you routinely see jobs for CNA’s or other nursing related jobs. If you call these places up, you may be very surprised to find out that there are free C.NA training programs that you can take advantage of. In a similar way, if you inquire at your local college, you can find out about weekend seminars dedicated to IT. Or better yet, do some research online to get ahold of the materials you need. Even if the job says you need a degree- don’t be afraid to apply! Give it a chance just to see what happens.

List Your Life Goals

When it comes to job search tips, many people don’t stop and think about what they want to do for the rest of their lives. If you forget about what you want, then you can rest assured you will never be happy. From there, the de-motivation alone will keep you in the ugly cycle of unemployment. So, before you do anything else, make a list of life goals and then start looking at those classified ads.

During the process of job hunting, you are bound to be looking for job search tips in order to accelerate the process. Sadly, if you try to learn from someone that does not have experience with the modern job hunt world, you will not get very far.
