The Inter-Relationship of Witch Craft, Astrology, and Tarot

It goes without saying that life is a balance between beneficial and harmful events. Without one, the other cannot exist. Modern science would have us believe all events are the result of natural causes, accidents, or the deliberate actions of other people. Furthermore, each cause can eventually be observed with the five senses. Despite this view, across time mankind has sought to utilize magical practices to find, control, and predict the workings of hidden forces behind lifetime events.

Although tarot, astrology, and witchcraft seem radically different, they all work on the same underlying principles and meanings. Each can be thought of as focusing on a specific aspect of working with unknown forces for the purpose of altering events and outcomes.

In essence, the search for both positive and negative energies begins with searching for where they are most likely to be found. Throughout time, the motions of the planets in relationship to the constellations have given indications of when certain energies are more active than others. Thus, the white witch may find his/her hidden forces in the forward motion of the planets, and beneficial aspects of planets within the constellations. In the same way, the black witch can find his/her indicators in the retrograde motions and disruptive aspects.

Once we begin to consider black and white witchcraft as aspects of a unified whole, the allusions to both astrology and tarot become readily apparent. Perhaps, at the outset, it can be said that the pursuit of any power is in and of itself a thrall, and, at the end of the day, it all must balance out as if these actions never happened. That said, life is about survival, and both forms of witchcraft seek to alter life events to offer advantages in that direction.

Plainly said, the black witch seeks to control the hidden forces which cause negative events. This can be for personal reasons, or at the request of someone else. At times, this control can be for the purpose of doing intentional harm to others. The white witch, on the other hand, seeks to maneuver beneficial forces in a way to enhance the lives of everyone. In some cases, the white witch may seek to utilize these energies for the purposes of undoing the workings of senselessly chaotic energies. In some instances, this may include taking action to undo the workings of black witchcraft.

Once a witch decides to pursue control of a specific energy, for a specific purpose, it remains to predict the results. While the planets and their motions are predictable and observable, life and its rich tapestry of events, is not. Thus, tarot cards provide a necessary randomness in attempting to determine the outcome of a magical working. Similar to astrology, the tarot has cards that are beneficial in their upright position, but indicate disruptive, or harmful events in the reverse. And, similar to real life, irregardless of the breadth and depth of positive and negative, one cannot exist without the other.

Similar to science, the practitioner of astrology, witchcraft and tarot needs to be mindful of the balance between positive and negative life events. Without this awareness, each action will have its opposite reaction until the balance is again restored. Since these reactions can be more severe than they would under natural circumstances, using astrology, witchcraft, and tarot together can provide insight that would not be obtained by practicing one branch of magical workings alone.
